A reward structure that expires if left unattended.

The Seasonal Ledger converts leisure into obligation. It offers a track of rewards, unlockable through play, and attaches to that track a clock. What is not claimed before the clock expires is forfeit.

Its genius, the museum records with due respect, is that the purchase feels generous — a great many rewards for a small sum — while the clock ensures that the reward is felt as labour owed rather than pleasure taken.

The specimen reframes absence as loss. The visitor who does not attend the ledger does not merely decline a reward; the visitor watches a reward, already partially earned, be withdrawn. The design thus manufactures the sensation of a debt.

Successive seasons are non-cumulative by construction. The ledger cannot be completed, only re-entered, and the re-entry is sold again each season at the same generous-seeming price.
